« La beauté du Diable is first a garden full of stifled statues (By Michel Jouniac). This bodies are stranded between sensuality, damnation and sacredness. The film appeal lies in the exactness of camera editing, precise as a musical composition. In a particular rythm, pictures burst out like a volley of quavers just before a short moment of silence, a half note. Then we are presented with an interior full of things, furniture, photographs and drawings whose more and more pregnant eroticism, still haunts statues and a body that lies there. Here, the formal development reaches a superior ornamental quality thanks to its splicing. Crystals, golden lace, mutlticoloured lightshows enable to tap the width of the chromatic field of the Super 8 film with a baroque subtlety. » Cyril Hurel
