Here Aloual leads Diasparagmos, one of the wildest ritual practices of Dyonisos cult in wich one has to dismember, to tear apart and devour the flesh of sacrificed animals in order to fuel the frenzy of bacchanals. Metaphor, allegory and shifting meaning are aesthetic and visual devices which run through all Marti’s films. Here the very shape of the film is sacrificed since it breaks up bodies, splits up images, cut gestures and dislocate the narrative continuity until a final acceleration is reached in a moment of ultimate bliss where the sacrificed (the filmed body) overwhelms the officiating priest (filming body).
