Allah est Grand is a three projectors film conjuration against radical religious extremism. A protective shield against threatening reality. A protection tool. This performance is similar to a true magic conjuration rite. Through this film rite, I ward off, but I wonder too and I question the audience. While expressing confidence in strength, bravery and resistance of the woman symbolized in the performance by Eve, I pay a quivering (like quivering images in a film) and burning homage to women confronted with intolerance and violence. I composed musical score from urban sounds (tube, streets, and so on ...) and from call for prayer picked up on extremist radical website La voix des opprimés (www.stcom.net). Koran verses and bird sings resound, echoing. Using this prayer call from this website symbolises the corruption of one of the most important human religion by radical groupuscules. The film conjuration Allah est Grand is also a performance with three projectors. From the very moment when the three projectors are launched, all is escaping me. In vivo. It is like directing a play. Each conjuration is a unique performance. One’s tries, as a director, to set everything: actors, light, space and all is totally escaping you ... Released, fortunately for our most greater surprise or, here, in this film conjuration, for our most deeper despair. Really, in this human tragedy, elements confronting each other on screen end sometimes in elimination, submission and effacing of Eve. Allah est Grand film conjuration is the expression of anxiety, but also a shield, a way to exteriorize it and to call for vigilance against the rise of any fundamentalism.

Collectif Jeune Cinéma

The Collectif Jeune Cinéma (Young Cinema Collective) is a filmmakers’ cooperative founded in Paris on June 12th 1971.

The vocation of the CJC is to distribute different and experimental films of all lengths, gathered in a catalogue that is continuously enriched by new works. This catalogue covers a very wide spectrum of aesthetics and cinematographic practices. For example, it is the only one to include experimental films made by children and young flimmakers (under 18 yo).

See distribution details here.

The CJC is also an archive for films and documents on experimental and different cinema.

The MNEME catalogue management tool you are currently browsing has been designed to provide maximum clarity and readability for both distribution and the archive. It meets international audiovisual item indexing standards (FIAF).

Each year, the CJC organizes the Festival des Cinémas Différents et Expérimentaux de Paris (a festival featuring different and experimental cinema in Paris) and schedules regular screenings each month in Paris or Île-de-France.
